New COO Appointed

London – 28 January 2010, investment management firm, Emergent Asset Management Ltd (Emergent) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Nealis as Chief Operations Officer.
Kevin will assume responsibility for Emergent’s financial and business operations.
Kevin has 25 years experience in the financial industry across operations, accounting, prime brokerage, asset management, private banking and electronic trading. He joins Emergent from Deutsche Bank (DB) where he was Global Head of the TMG Global Prime Finance division and European Head of TMG Equities. He was previosuly Head of DB\'s European Direct Market Access business.
Prior to this, Kevin worked for Goldman Sachs where he implemented their in-house portfolio accounting system and set up their Swiss Banking operation in Zurich, and also for JP Morgan in private banking and was responsible for setting up the London office of Knight Securities.

Launching the African Agricultural Land Fund

Having succesfully launched the African Agricultural Land Fund in Q4 2008, Emergent is pleased to announce that the next subfund will be launching in Q2 2010.
The Fund brings together the key themes of agriculture/food security, Africa, socially-responsible investing (SRI) and economic sustainability, purchasing and managing a wide spectrum of agricultural properties across the sub-Saharan region, with investments diversified across both geographically and across agricultural sectors - including crops, biofuels, livestock, game farming and timber. Returns, based on those successfully acheived through a 4-year pilot project, are projected to be approximately 30% per annum over the Fund\'s 5-year term.

Emergent launches Global FX Fund

The Fund is managed by Martin Armitage-Smith, a highly experienced FX trader, who joined the company from Citibank in June 2008. Martin had been at Citi for almost 15 years, trading on the Prop Desk, where he achieved an annualised return of 15.5%.

GeoMacro goes UCITS-compliant

Emergent launched a UCITS-compliant version of GeoMacro, its discretionary global macro hedge fund strategy, in February 2009, having noted significant demand for such a vehicle from many EU-based institutional investors. The strategy is co-managed by Emergent CIO David Murrin and Martin Armitage-Smith, Senior Fund Manager, who joined Emergent from Citibank in 2008.

Alternative EM Debt Fund returns +75.89%

The Alternative EM Debt Fund, which was up +30.3% in 2006 and +19.34% in 2007, returned +75.89% in 2008.
The fund was ranked top for the year of all emerging markets funds by Eurohedge and Bloomberg.
Over the past 3 years combined, the fund has returned +173.41%.
